Penthrox has the active ingredient methoxyflurane, which is a non-narcotic analgesic inhaled medication with sedative effect primarily used to improve moderate to severe pain following trauma. It may also be used for short episodes of pain as a result of medical procedures or emergency pain resulting from certain conditions such as renal colic, dislocations and dressing changes.
Penthrox is innovative and it is the first in the class that can be administered by inhalation, which allows for rapid action, more compliance and ease of dealing with.
Onset of pain relief is rapid and of a short duration giving the medical staff easier access to treat patients suffering from pain and/or anxiety.
Method of administration: unit pack contains a vial of 3 ml methoxyflurane and a green inhaler. Empty the 3 ml vial containing methoxyflurane into the back of the inhaler (green whistle) and make sure it has been absorbed completely, then instruct the patient to breath normally from and into the whistle.
